[Ben looks around before speaking, but nothing he sees helps — obviously. He doesn't exactly know why or how he got here.]

This is not my hotel. [another look around] Hello? Is there anyone around? It's not that I want to go to the Senate hearing, but I would like to know where I am.

Actually, I assume a runner would keep running. In any case, my presence isn't actually required at the hearings, I was just going to make sure Kitty didn't do anything she shouldn't.

Corner a runner, they don't stop talking. Tried it? It's entertaining. And what kind of hearings?

I'm not usually interested in what they have to say, if they're cornered.

For an oversight committee, on the Center for the Study of Paranormal Biology.

Really? I am. [Because she's usually the one who has them cornered, and usually because she wants information. Or payment.]

Fancy stuff, that. Is it really that official now? They getting closer to exposing everyone for what they really are?

It isn't about exposing anything, it's about research and funding. You know, red tape. [Unless the lead Senator is up to something, but that's neither here nor there]

Of course I know. It comes before the exposure, most times. Then again, we've always managed to turn it around and go back into hiding. [She shrugs, grinning.] Do you think you'll get your funding?

[What?]

Me? It isn't my project. I'm going with one of the speakers. [And he could care less if they got their funding, to tell the truth.]

Melia Ryan. [She grins, and it's somewhat creepy, not gonna lie.] I'm going to have to work double-time on the Ben names at this rate...

Ben's a name on its own. [He does not realize what he has gotten himself into. No, not at all. Poor, silly Ben.]

So is Melia. What of it?

[So based on his name, and the Senate business, she at least knows he's from some version of Earth... maybe.] And how's D.C.? It's been quite a while since I've been there.

[.. nevermind, he doesn't feel like arguing against something he doesn't understand.]

I haven't gotten there yet. Last I heard, it was fine.

Maybe you could come back and tell me how it is, then. It'd be a shame if it went up in flames since I've been gone.
