[Ben looks around before speaking, but nothing he sees helps — obviously. He doesn't exactly know why or how he got here.]

This is not my hotel. [another look around] Hello? Is there anyone around? It's not that I want to go to the Senate hearing, but I would like to know where I am.

It isn't about exposing anything, it's about research and funding. You know, red tape. [Unless the lead Senator is up to something, but that's neither here nor there]

Of course I know. It comes before the exposure, most times. Then again, we've always managed to turn it around and go back into hiding. [She shrugs, grinning.] Do you think you'll get your funding?

[What?]

Me? It isn't my project. I'm going with one of the speakers. [And he could care less if they got their funding, to tell the truth.]

And who are you?

Ben O'Farrell. You are?

Melia Ryan. [She grins, and it's somewhat creepy, not gonna lie.] I'm going to have to work double-time on the Ben names at this rate...

Ben's a name on its own. [He does not realize what he has gotten himself into. No, not at all. Poor, silly Ben.]

So is Melia. What of it?

[So based on his name, and the Senate business, she at least knows he's from some version of Earth... maybe.] And how's D.C.? It's been quite a while since I've been there.

[.. nevermind, he doesn't feel like arguing against something he doesn't understand.]

I haven't gotten there yet. Last I heard, it was fine.

Maybe you could come back and tell me how it is, then. It'd be a shame if it went up in flames since I've been gone.

I have a feeling you would hear about something like that.
