systemspark: (I don't need you to worry for me)

Hey look, a different planet!

Landing was easy enough, especially since the small, commercial passenger ship was designed to do it all on its own. Kyle didn't have to lift a finger. He was grateful for it, too. Modern technology was awesome, especially when it meant he just got to kick back and watch. He considered looking into what made the ship tick that way and adapting it to things around his workplace, but he'd probably get caught, knowing his luck. The risk outweighed the benefit. Oh well.

Besides, he had more pressing things to think about, like what he could possibly wish for once he got out of the ship and into The Point. That was the whole reason they came to this hunk of rock in the middle of who-knows-where after all, why should he walk away empty handed? The possibilities were endless... why couldn't he think of anything?

His thoughts were interrupted by the convenient little tone that announced the ship had come to a complete stop and it was safe to remove your seat belt and disembark. Thank God. He practically slung off his seat belt, adjusted his hat, and started toward the ship's exit with a grin. Fresh air would be very, very nice right now, and given they'd landed in the middle of a clearing in what appeared to be a vast forest, the air would certainly be very fresh.

Lost in thoughts of just what he would come away from this adventure with (for a place to gain miracle-granting status, it had to be pretty damn great), Matthew hadn't been anywhere near as quick to notice the landing tone, and it was the sound of Kyle running off that jolted him back to awareness. He untangled himself from the seat belt as quickly as he could and hurried after his friend, intentionally knocking shoulders with him when he caught up. "You're trying to leave me behind," he accused, but the effect was ruined by the huge grin on his face.

"The trip wasn't that bad," Matthew said, "for a nine hour nap, anyway." He gestured for Kyle to go ahead. "You're the one in such a hurry, let's go."

Matthew followed and stood above Kyle, looking down. He considered tapping his foot, but the grass was springy enough that he doubted it would have the proper effect. "We didn't come all this way for you to nap, Ry."

It took a few seconds to untangle that sentence, and even then Matthew wasn't sure he believed what had been said. "You're afraid of the Point," he said slowly. "We come all this way and you're afraid to follow through."

Both options were about equally unlikely in Matthew's mind. "How do you not know what to ask for? Riches, fame, a planet named in your honor?"

"It's better than not picking anything." Matthew shook his head. "It's the chance of a lifetime and you're just letting it slip away."

A serious subject called for a serious response, so Matthew sat down next to Kyle. "That's tough. Especially since choosing one pretty much kills off any hope for the other."

Matthew still thought picking neither was a cop-out, but he'd expressed that earlier. "So you're really going to make me go by myself?"

"And let you bitch at me about the one you didn't pick for the next ten years? Please." Matthew stood up, making a show of brushing nonexistent dirt and grass off of his pants. "I guess I'll just have to get something twice as good to make up for it."

"Turrets cost extra and you already put too many bells and whistles on," he said, starting off toward the Point. He didn't gotten more than twenty feet away before turning back to add, "And if I die, say something nice at the funeral."

Matthew waved that off. "Like you're even that interested." He started off again, mind already on his destination.

After spending an eventful hour at the Point, Matthew returned... seemingly unchanged, other than the confused look on his face and a good-sized walking stick he apparently gained in the interim. He dropped to the ground and set the stick aside before asking, "Ever met somebody who talks like a fortune cookie?"

"There were three of them," he gestured with one hand, half to go along with what he's saying and half to brush at a cloud in the sky. "With robes. Part of the decor in the room outside it. They gave me a stick."

"No." He turned enough to give Kyle a Look. "It's kind of big for that."
