first encounter ; 0 days

If there were any luck in the world, Chivason would have been sound asleep by now. He'd had a wonderful dinner — courtesy of sweet, old Mrs. Jann — and he'd eaten enough to be pleasantly drowsy, and then some. To cap it all off, she'd offered him a bed (a bed) and tucked him in as only a grandmother could. He didn't really have much to worry about, still having a few valuables tucked away in his knapsack, enough to cover a few weeks even if she decided to change her mind about letting him stay free-of-charge, and he certainly hadn't been here long enough to need to think about moving on.

Whatever the reason, though, he stayed in bed long enough to need to roll over half a dozen times before he finally gave up. Carefully tucking the blanket back under the pillow, he snagged his knapsack and tiptoed outside. He let his mind drift as he walked, hoping it would help him relax enough to actually sleep. He had liked his last stop, even gone so far as to make a few friends. He should have known better than to try helping Lia find her necklace. She was too excited when she asked him if he would walk with her. He scoffed softly at himself— then tripped, tried to catch himself, and faceplanted in the dirt.

By now, he had kicked the blanket off, and curled up onto himself. He was still asleep... though, he seemed a bit distressed, if he furrowed brow was anything to go by.

"No, let's... not..." Sefton shuddered and tries to turn on his other side. He aborted the motion when he bumped his injured elbow, and simply wrapped his arms around himself. "Mama, don't—"

Sefton's only reply was to murmur in discontent. It seemed as though he was trying to move away from something without actually moving.

The result was fairly spectacular. Sefton jerked in surprise, eyes shooting open at the sudden, echoing sounds... and fell off the couch with a thump. The floor groaned and rattled underneath of him, nicely mimicking his own groan.

"Ugh," Sefton replied.

"What..." Sefton went silent for a moment. Then, loudly, "What was that?!"

Sefton sat up, clutching his elbow, and threw a sour look in Chivy's direction. "I fell off the couch," he said plainly.

He still seemed a bit miffed, accident or not. "Like what?"

"Owe me one what?"
polarization: (〉 you think i'm in love)

[personal profile] polarization 2009-10-11 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"So..." He contemplated that, then tried, "If I asked you to leave me alone...?"

Sefton huffed. He pushed himself to his feet, then sat back on the couch, slowly pulling his hand away from his elbow to see the damage. It wasn't too horrendous, but it had started a small trickle of blood.

"Then, why don't you tell me something?"
polarization: (〉 i'm not that innocent)

[personal profile] polarization 2009-10-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
If he was being honest with himself, this was probably the one time Sefton didn't want to be left alone. Sick and injured, even if he managed to get to work and support himself, it felt too... lonely to live like this while sick. The hypocrisy of the situation wasn't lost on him, but he chose to ignore it for the moment.

"What were you doing with those earrings? Why?"
polarization: (〉 i'm not that innocent)

[personal profile] polarization 2009-10-11 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Why there? Whose were they?" It seemed Sefton had been thinking about it since the dismissal last time he had tried. "Why not turn them over to the lost and found?"
