Sefton simply shook his head. They weren't out of the woods yet.
When they arrived at the front, the officer was quick to inform Sefton that he was free to go. Chivy, however, would have to claim his things—unfortunately, the police wouldn't be able to return much more than the clothes that had been in his bag, along with the bag itself. Sefton, unsure of what to do now that the mini-crisis was over (look for a job? Head for the next town already?), simply leaned against the wall near the entrance and waited. The chatter in the background was surprisingly mundane, Sefton found, considering the fair that was probably still going on. Seemed as though the town was a little on the boring side, if this was an exciting day for the place.
"... department up in Vermont for you."
What? Sefton found his eyes automatically looking for the source of that voice. Much like when his name was called in a crowd, it stood to reason that places he was also familiar with would stand out from the rest of the humdrum of police station. It looked like one of the younger officers was talking to the one that had originally made his and Chivy's arrest, near the far end of the room. Stomach dropping to his shoes and heart leaping to his throat, Sefton kept his eyes on the officer, hoping to glean more from the conversation. Just in case.
