Chivy was preoccupied with doing as he was told (zero reason to get himself back into trouble at this point) so he didn't see Sefton's reaction, and he didn't have any particular reason to notice the mention of Vermont. Honestly, he was lucky the officers hadn't felt the need to try searching the bag more thoroughly. Apparently Chivy's stumbling compliance had kept them from suspecting him of hiding anything and he didn't really feel like correcting that assumption.
The officer from before looked up from the form he was filling out and gave the younger officer a puzzled look. "Vermont, huh? Now why would they be..." he trailed off and shook his head. "Ours not to reason, mm?" He took the phone. "Officer Preston speaking. The boy? Yes, they're both still here— What? No, no, there's two of them. Lowell, you say?" He moved the phone to his shoulder and addressed the younger officer. "Go see which one of them's Lowell for me, would you?"
