I've been around here for who only knows how long and I'm still finding out new things.

Right now, I'm looking for a show of hands. Ben-the-lawyer is under the impression that vampires and werewolves are pretty much old hat. Now, I've lived through Magog attacks and Nietzschean raids, but I've never met anything claiming to turn into a fuzzy thing when the moon shines right. Besides, what do you do if you're caught off planet? Whoops, the blue moon threw off my month, better luck next time?

That's not to say I don't believe him, some of you are weird enough that I'm pretty sure I'd believe someone who showed up claiming to be the King himself at this point. I'm just saying, it all sounds really out there.

Why else would we have spaceships?

Sure, in Florida or Houston, or something.

Huh? [He's horribly intelligent, you know.]

Right. Timeline differences. I don't know how I keep forgetting. No, I'm talking about actual spaceships. Big, bad, and beautiful. And did I mention big? NASA's not exactly up to speed yet.

Timeline differences? ... Oh, so you're from the future? Right. [Here, have an attempt to cover up a very skeptical look.]

Sure am! You ever seen a 'port before? [craning his head to the side and tapping on it]

[She looks at it, and then winces and looks away.] Whoa, whoa! Wow, how did-... that had to hurt! What is it?

Dataport, datajack, whatever word you want to use. Lets me hook up to computer systems directly. It's really useful when you're short on time.

Whoa. That's actually kinda cool... I've never seen anything like that!

It's a little past NASA — no offense. I mean, it's still a pretty new thing back home, too.

[She stares, pretty impressed and interested for a while... but then she folds her arms and gives him a skeptical look.]

Alright, then... prove it. How do I know that's not some sort of professionally done... accessory... thing that doesn't really work?

... I'm afraid you've lost me. What are we showing our hands about?

Ever met a vampire or a werewolf?

Can't say that I had until I came here, no. This place is a strange collective. I simply suspend disbelief.

Aaaand that's more points to my side of the argument.

[Faint laugh~] Glad I could help, but my point is... does it really matter in a place like this?

Sure it does. There's nothing wrong with trying to find out if something's weird or weirder, and I'm betting the vampires can sit with the weirder crowd.

I'm of the opinion that the vampires aren't nearly as weird as the talking creatures.

What kind of creatures are we talking about?

[She takes a deep breath, shifts her weight a bit, and ticks off a finger for each item in her list of oddities:] I've seen speaking frogs, beast-looking things that speak only their name or syllables that make up their name, a purple-colored monster that was capable of possessing a small boy...

So up until that last one, it wasn't sounding that bad. Purple possessing monster, huh? Doesn't have any relation to a purple people eater, does it?

Perhaps a distant nephew. He acted like an energetic little child. Rather trigger-happy, too.

I think I'm glad we didn't meet. You see anything else worth the weird label?

My friends suddenly developed strange... abilities. Does that count? [She conveniently won't mention her own. For now. ♥]

[Don't mind Peter, he just got here and he doesn't believe a word you're saying.

He's off a ways, arms crossed; raised eyebrow, I'm-Not-Impressed look in place.]

[He'd ask where the hell he is, but he has his suspicions and he's just going to... wait it out for now.]

Definitely a nay. Along with the rest of... [Hand waving] whatever you mentioned.

Elvis? Magog? Lawyers? Blue moons?

Lawyers and blue moons are common enough. You never mentioned Elvis, and I have no idea what that other word was. I have a feeling I really don't want to know, either.

Yeah, no, you definitely don't want to know. I wish I didn't know. Heck, I could do with forgetting about Nietzscheans, too.

Right. Should have caught that, but was too busy trying to find a way out of... whatever this is. [He shakes his head.]

And if these Nietzscheans follow the teachings of the philosopher by the same name, yeah, I'd stay away.

Hmmm... Well, for me? Vampires and werewolves and stuff were fiction. But now that this is where I live? They're definitely, definitely not.
