You know, it really is nice to be in Chicago for the summer. Perhaps a little longer, if things go the way I want them to. Transfer credits aren't that much of a pain to deal with, and even so, it's not as though I couldn't manage... I should get someone to show me around sometime.

In the meanwhile, I'm still bored. Who is there around here that's worth speaking to? Or should I just go practice fencing?

Mind if I come over?

Huh? Sure. If you want to. Howie's out on the town tonight, he probably won't be back 'til tomorrow.

If you would rather I didn't, then I won't.

Not like I'm doing anything. Hell, you can do whatever you want to. It was just a random question, that's all.

I'll be there in a few minutes, then.

[Heero does, indeed, show up a few minutes later. He knocks on the front door a few times and then waits for an answer. And, as an afterthought, hopes that it's Duo that answers the door and not Howard, because that's always more than a little awkward.]

[If he's listening, he can probably hear Duo's halfhearted yell of "It's open!" Even if he isn't listening, though, he'll catch the lovely crash as something (one of Duo's shoes) is thrown at, and hits, the door — that's the universal sign for "It's safe to come in", right?]

[Heero just closes his eyes instead of flinching. He's generally used to said universal sign, but it still manages to make him at least blink. He shakes his head and makes his way in.]

Duo.

[Duo looks tired, but it's nothing horrible, and he's lounging on the couch in the main room. Said couch has seen better days — many better days, if the state it's in is any indication. It's very patched over and Howard's had it since before Duo came to stay with him] Hey, man, what's up?

Nothing. [He moves to take a seat in the chair.] What about you?

Not a thing. Life goes on and on and I live it. That's about how it goes.

Sure, except that life is only getting stranger.

Yeah, that too. All you can do there is just take things as they come, though, right?

If you can manage. [shakes his head] Personally, it's causing me to read into things.

Read into things? What do you mean by that?

Most is nothing of consequence. Just changes in my own analysis of things around me. [pause] Some, though... you're worrying me, Duo. You have been, and I would like to know what's wrong.

Huh? What'd I do that you're worried?

You aren't acting like yourself. Have you noticed at all?

I'm not? [there's a small edge of guilt there, but he's not totally sure what Heero's getting at] I mean.. how'm I acting different?

I can't explain it very well. You're harsher. More distant. Your choice in words has changed, and possibly your thoughts as well, for all I know.

[okay, that gets a wince]

I'm not really doing it on purpose..

But you are. And if you agree, then something really must be wrong.

I'm just.. [rubs one side of his face, turning away from Heero] I haven't been sleeping real great, that's all.

Is that all?
