While the movie was on, it hadn't been so bad. It wasn't a silent experience, by any means (when Duo involved, it rarely was), but comments were directed toward the screen instead of each other, and any silence was easily filled by the film continuing on. Once it ended, it was harder to keep himself distracted from the fact that things were off-balance, and that made it harder to pretend that they weren't. It was a stupid cycle, but he wasn't going to let the fact that he'd asked about something he probably shouldn't have screw up their friendship. Especially since it hadn't. Not yet.

It wasn't the asking that was causing the problem, it was the fact that things seemed different, but they weren't different, not really, and that was seriously throwing Duo off. It would almost be easier if Heero had been angry, if only because then Duo's nervous energy could be used trying to fix things instead of trying to not mess things up by anticipating nonexistent issues. He was trying to ignore all of that, though, so he just leaned back in his seat and stretched. If he acted like there wasn't anything wrong, there wouldn't be anything wrong... right? "That one wasn't terrible. Told you I could find a good movie if you gave me another chance."

Tree-picking had turned out a success, not that it was ever anything but. Duo won the unfortunate duty of preparing the living room for the arrival of the tree, so he was the first back to the house. Everyone else was going to be arriving sometime the next day, tree and other miscellaneous purchases in tow. One of his favorite songs was on the radio, which was the only reason he could name that he didn't notice his three friends waiting on the lawn.

He pulled into the driveway and stopped the car, still nodding his head to the radio. Another thirty seconds and he'd turn the car off (assuming the dj didn't pick another good one to follow this one), besides, why hurry? He could get everything done in the few hours tomorrow before the old man and everyone else showed up.

Winning should come with some kind of satisfaction. And it might, Wufei supposed, with time. For now, he wasn't much other than frustrated. None of his opponents had fought with any kind of honor, retreating the instant things turned in his favor. Fighting against that kind of weakness could never truly end with success, unless he was able to completely destroy his opponents.

As soon as his last opponent left, taking most of the other fighters along with him, Wufei moved to stand by his car and wait for Heero.

[It's Friday night in Chicago. Most college students would be out partying, or at least up to no good. What's Heero doing? ... Running his dailies in WoW. Of course, he'd be doing something more in-depth if he didn't have to put up with Erin in a few hours, but he'd rather have all of his energy and wits about him with things involving her. Especially just her. How come Heero attracts the spaz kids...?

Collecting loot is interrupted by his cell phone ringing. He doesn't look to see who called, just flips the phone open and brings it to his ear.
]

Yeah?

[Morning. Somewhere around 9:45AM. Sun is shining, breeze is blowing, and Heero... is sorely tempted to roll over and try going back to sleep. He'd spent most of the night sleeping on a hair trigger, meaning the slightest movement of anything woke him right back up -- fully -- and kept him that way for quite a bit until he could manage "sleep" again. Regardless, he has standards, so it's Time To Get Up. And besides, going to sleep when the sun is beating down right in your face through a hole in the curtains is always substantially difficult.

10:00AM, he's dressed -- even though his room is blistering cold, no thanks to the shattered glass all over the floor. He sighs heavily as he makes his way to the kitchen, stopping near Duo for a moment. He contemplates waking him up... .... ...but decides against it in favor of finding food.

He has no idea what he's going to do with today, other than try to avoid being seen by Angels...

[Duo was trying to be serious. Honest. It's a serious matter, to have the Angels threatening their security to the point where he was going to stay with Heero. But... well, it was a very good reason to hang out with Heero. He'd taken the chance to swing by the grocery for some peeps and toothpicks, as well as a few other goodies. Who knew what Heero would have for snacking purposes? And, of course, he'd brought the useful stuff. Hell if he was giving Heero a reason to yell at him, and hell if he was going to make it any easier for the Angels than it had to be.

Arms occupied with way too much stuff, he used his head— to knock on the door.
]

Heero, buddy, open the door. Maybe you should invest in a push-in door. [another knock] So I could, you know, push it. You'd probably still lock it, though. Meaning my pushing still wouldn't do anything. [knock! Okay, that one was a little too hard. Ow. He'd be putting a hand to his head, if he could get one out of the bags]
[identity profile] selfdetonation.livejournal.com
[Streamers, a few balloons, one of those huge banners... Heero was almost afraid that Wufei would take one look at what they'd done to his place and scream at them all. After taking one more look around, he decided that actually, that probably was the most likely outcome.]

So. What do you think he'll say first?
[identity profile] selfdetonation.livejournal.com
[Heero is studying... when he doesn't even have to be studying. This test does not count. This test is only to see what he already knows before the teacher gets on with the school year. And yet, he feels he has to make a perfect score on this test.

Right.

It's been three hours, so Heero decides it's time for a break. He opens his laptop, types in his password, and then goes to his fridge to get a drink...

[Dorothy is punctual. As usual. She's standing outside of the pizza place, careful to stay under the awning -- it had been drizzling all day, and it looked like it might start back up again. It's not like she wasn't prepared. It's just that despite her new (and stylish) raincoat, she still has no protection from the knees down, which is also where her skirt stops. She also picked today to wear sandals. .... oops.

She drums her fingernails against the glass as she looks each direction for any sign of Maxwell approaching.

[Thank God for dreamseers.

Heero's car screeches to a halt just outside the main entrance to Wrigley Field -- screw parking, there were more important things to worry about, like the rush of people evacuating the stadium, most if not all of them screaming in terror...

He exits the car, slamming the door closed behind him, and immediately begins looking around for any sign of what's actually going on. It doesn't take long. After the sound of an explosion, Heero turns to see one of the huge lights snap in half and fall right onto the field. After another explosion, several windows shatter, covering the ground in glass.

Suffice to say, Heero is not happy. Cursing, he pulls his gun out from its place on his belt and starts inside.

[It had been long enough since the .. incident that Wufei was mostly calm, but not so long that he was over the shock and irritation. It was possible he wouldn't be past those for quite some time, really. He almost regretted having called Heero, but not quite. If nothing else, Yuy would be willing to tell him that he belonged in a mental institution (at least, he hoped), and he wasn't likely to have the reactions Wufei could all-but-imagine Catalonia and Maxwell would have. He didn't even hesitate before knocking on Heero's door, taking the time between knocking and receiving an answer to try to calm himself further and turn the day's events over in his mind one last time.]
[identity profile] selfdetonation.livejournal.com
[Heero... is doing nothing. For once in his life. He has no plans, nowhere to be, no one to see, nobody coming over... It's taken a while to get used to it, but he's finally decided that taking the quarter off from school is the best thing he's ever done for himself. Seriously, when was the last time he hadn't overloaded himself with something? Grade school?

He sits down on the couch and opens his laptop. It's 2:00, almost an hour after he last checked. There has to be something new to look at. It's the internet, after all...
]
[identity profile] selfdetonation.livejournal.com
[Heero kicks open the door to his apartment, not caring that the top hinge pops loose. He's carrying an unconscious Dorothy in his arms, who is covered in soot, ash, blood, dirt, scrapes, bruises... Heero isn't unscathed, but unlike Dorothy, he won't be needing stitches. Just a shower. But there are more important things right now...

He ignores the gun that falls out of his pocket as he goes to lay her down on the couch, kicking the door one more time to keep it open for Duo. The kick is enough to knock the top hinge a little bit looser.

Catalonia, your sycophant will not leave me alone. Couldn't you have left him some kind of forwarding address? Or maybe hurt him enough that he would stop trying to find you before you left?

((OoC: ... Not necessarily private (would anyone want to bug Wufei? ::blink:: ), but threadhopping is, unfortunately, discouraged. D: ))

You know, it really is nice to be in Chicago for the summer. Perhaps a little longer, if things go the way I want them to. Transfer credits aren't that much of a pain to deal with, and even so, it's not as though I couldn't manage... I should get someone to show me around sometime.

In the meanwhile, I'm still bored. Who is there around here that's worth speaking to? Or should I just go practice fencing?

((OoC: Yes, it's still open to everyone from everywhere. ♥ Honest.))
