[Duo was trying to be serious. Honest. It's a serious matter, to have the Angels threatening their security to the point where he was going to stay with Heero. But... well, it was a very good reason to hang out with Heero. He'd taken the chance to swing by the grocery for some peeps and toothpicks, as well as a few other goodies. Who knew what Heero would have for snacking purposes? And, of course, he'd brought the useful stuff. Hell if he was giving Heero a reason to yell at him, and hell if he was going to make it any easier for the Angels than it had to be.

Arms occupied with way too much stuff, he used his head— to knock on the door.]

Heero, buddy, open the door. Maybe you should invest in a push-in door. [another knock] So I could, you know, push it. You'd probably still lock it, though. Meaning my pushing still wouldn't do anything. [knock! Okay, that one was a little too hard. Ow. He'd be putting a hand to his head, if he could get one out of the bags]

[Hidden numbers aren't high on his trust list, so he takes a moment, after he sets his book aside, to weigh the reasons for answering against the reasons for not answering. He finally decides he may as well — if he doesn't answer, he'll just wonder about it later.]

What?

[Duo lays back on the floor, keeping his grin out of his voice, drawing his words out and making his voice more nasal.]

Heeeey. You order a pizza?

[... He isn't. Facepalm.]

Duo. Really? [At least he's still keeping his voice down...]

[a short pause. It's been some time since he's had a call like this, but the time hasn't made him forgetful]

Maxwell. [fleetingly, he notes this means nothing has gone wrong with the other two, but his irritation is at the forefront of his mind.] Aren't you supposed to be with Yuy?

[Duo laughs]

You know, you used to at least humor me for a minute. And yeah, Heero's here. Hang on, lemme make this thing go to speakerphone. [He starts pressing buttons, causing more than a few beeps on Wufei's end before he finally gets the phone to do what he wants.] There.

Has anything happened, or are you still waiting? [He doesn't think Heero would have allowed the phone call if they were, but it's always possible]

We're fine. Someone came in, but he's been taken care of. [Heero sounds so calm...]

Good. [He trusts that they're both fine, and ~~probably~~ wouldn't bring himself to ask even if he didn't.]

What about you, anything happening?

I was reading before you decided to interrupt. [His tone is even, though, so it's obvious he doesn't consider the interruption that bad.]

Then I'm glad we could get you away from it. I don't even want to know what you were reading.

[Heero shakes his head, smiling a bit. He's just glad that Wufei is alright.]

Where did you end up, anwyay?

Sally's current boyfriend let me stay in his apartment while he stayed with her tonight. [He scowls at the wall — he's not sure he likes this Rick, but he had to make a show of (grudging) support so that he could take advantage of Rick's offer of a place to stay after Wufei had made up some plumbing issues with his apartment. He would just have to make certain Rick was deserving of this chance]

It's not still Stephen, is it? [Duo had met him while gathering information for Wufei's birthday party, and he didn't have a very positive impression.]

No. [Wufei replied firmly, and not without some pride. He had enjoyed running that one off. Although, to be fair, he enjoyed running off most of her boyfriends.]

Good. He didn't like me very much. He's okay with you staying there tomorrow, too?

[Wufei snorts. Not liking Maxwell is the only positive thing he knows of Stephen.]

Sally has the day off. They're spending it together. [He's trying not to think about that, actually.]

If things change, here should be safe. Assuming they have no way of knowing the one they sent here failed. [That may have had more... substance behind it -- maybe (it is Heero, after all) -- but he's trying to keep himself from slipping into overly pensive.]

[very firmly] If they do, we'll deal with it. [a pause as Duo gives the phone a hopeful look. C'mooooon, 'Fei] Nothing wrong with having three of us around, though.

[Wufei huffs once, and the rustle of pages is heard as he picks up his book and starts flipping through it.]

If it becomes necessary, I will join you. [But his tone says he doubts it will. He doesn't understand how Heero can tolerate being stuck in close quarters with Duo, and he certainly doesn't feel like signing himself up for that duty.]

[Heero figured that would be the answer. He shrugs, having... nothing to say to that, really. Wufei knows he's welcome. That's what matters. So... cue poking at laptop.]

[Duo listens to the page flipping become just a slow turn, and then nothing from Wufei. He gives the phone, and then Heero, an offended/baffled look]

Oh, come on.

[There's no recognizable response from Wufei's end, he's raised an eyebrow and continued reading]

[Heero heard that. He rolls his eyes.] You could let him go back to his book, Duo.

Okay, A? You brought up the phone call. B? Normal people say good bye when they're done with the phone. They don't just... give up on it.
