first encounter ; 0 days

If there were any luck in the world, Chivason would have been sound asleep by now. He'd had a wonderful dinner — courtesy of sweet, old Mrs. Jann — and he'd eaten enough to be pleasantly drowsy, and then some. To cap it all off, she'd offered him a bed (a bed) and tucked him in as only a grandmother could. He didn't really have much to worry about, still having a few valuables tucked away in his knapsack, enough to cover a few weeks even if she decided to change her mind about letting him stay free-of-charge, and he certainly hadn't been here long enough to need to think about moving on.

Whatever the reason, though, he stayed in bed long enough to need to roll over half a dozen times before he finally gave up. Carefully tucking the blanket back under the pillow, he snagged his knapsack and tiptoed outside. He let his mind drift as he walked, hoping it would help him relax enough to actually sleep. He had liked his last stop, even gone so far as to make a few friends. He should have known better than to try helping Lia find her necklace. She was too excited when she asked him if he would walk with her. He scoffed softly at himself— then tripped, tried to catch himself, and faceplanted in the dirt.

Sighing, he laid out two tens and a five on the counter. The attendant simply quirked a brow as if to ask what he was doing, to which he turned to Chivy and replied, "Gimme twenty."

Sefton took the edge of the bills and placed them on his own. He was a little surprised that Chivy didn't make any sort of comment, but pushed that thought aside for now. To the attendant, he said, "Two keys."

She gave a small, tired smile in understanding and began ringing up the transaction. After the keys were readied, she set them out in front of the two boys. "Room 207. Thank you for choosing to stay with us tonight."

Taking one of the keys, Sefton readjusted his bag on his shoulder and stuffed his wallet into it. Without actually saying anything more, he began his trek to the stairwell at the side of the lobby.

Sefton merely shrugged, keeping his eyes resolutely either at his feet or the stairs themselves. "Better than sleeping in the rain."

"Two," he corrected absently. Exiting the stairwell, it wasn't long of a walk to get to the room. Unlocking and pushing open the door, he moved to the bed closest to the door, dropped his bag, and turned around to sit on it.

Looking around at the rest of the room, he commented, "Not bad."
polarization: (〉 still cannot find any good sleep)

"Yeah," Sefton answered. He then shifted himself to lay his legs across the bed while keeping his torso supported on the backboard and pillows. "Didn't expect all this to be going on."
polarization: (〉 did you think i'd go on not noticing?)

"Maybe a little." He couldn't be entirely sure - after all, the conferences would still be going on, but things like that tended to rent out an entire hotel for their purposes or at least stay in one specific area. The concert-goers were probably the ones causing the shortage of hotel rooms.

A frustrated sigh while Sefton let his head thunk back against the wall behind him. "No. Couldn't find anywhere hiring. You believe that?"
polarization: (〉 oops i did it again)

"Means it'll be that much longer 'til I get paid." Which also meant he'd have to be even more careful about how he spent his money after spending so much on the room. Although... splitting the cost made that more bearable, at least.
polarization: (〉 know the way you look)

Sefton held back the retort on his tongue, frowned to himself, then turned to look at Chivy. "What?"
polarization: (〉 know the way you look)

[personal profile] polarization 2010-03-22 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Some... of your money," Sefton said, almost hoping Chivy would laugh and correct him. He couldn't be serious, right?
polarization: (〉 never really had a doubt)

[personal profile] polarization 2010-03-22 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
The frown grew. "No."
polarization: (〉 by now you should have somehow)

[personal profile] polarization 2010-03-22 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not taking your money."
